AGGREGAT

Germany | Minimal Avant-Garde

AGGREGAT don’t play by the rules, they play it by ear. André Wittmann (analog synthesizers), Matho Thomsen (drums and electronics) and Daniel Sorour (cello and sound effects) have been working together as a trio under that name since the year 2017 to combine their classical training with a passion for minimal music and all things avantgarde, as well as electronic and club music in its various shapes.

With timbral experimentation as its foundation, this band produces enticing compositions without using pop clichés. The three musicians desire for discovering unique and natural sounds from within the structure of their music, thereby forming a conclusive entity. They call themselves Aggregat for a reason. Being able to, and in fact being determined to change shape constantly is their guiding principle.

In the past years, the Lübeck-based trio toured through techno clubs and concert venues, stopping by Lärz's legendary Fusion festival, the Boom festival in Portugal, the Lethargy Festival in Zurich as well as the Musikmarathon Eupen and others, touring through Brazil, or broadcasting on Arte Concert from Eurosonic in Groningen.

Their strength as a high-energy live band was also on full display when they released their first album in December 2020. »1« was flanked by remixes from kindred spirits such as the electro duo CYRK and Brandt Brauer Frick member Paul Frick and perfectly encapsulated the intuitive interplay between different musical languages that is also central to its successor »Origins«, which has been released in February 2024.

In addition, Aggregat have expanded their repertoire to include acoustic versions of their compositions since 2023. Using marimba, vibraphone and cembalo instead of analog synthesizers, cello without any sound effects and the drumset more inclined towards jazz and classical percussion, the music of Aggregat appears in a more intimate guise.
